RedM Emotes Player Guide

Everything a player needs: the menu, the commands, the keys, and what the emote wheel can do.

Server owners — this page is written to be handed out

Paste it into a Discord channel or a rules post. Every key and command below is the shipped default. The menu key, the stop key, the chat commands and the chair keys can all be changed by the server owner — the shared-emote E / R keys, Escape and the SHIFT + 15 slots are fixed in code, and the SHIFT hotkeys can only be switched off entirely. Edit the tables if your server is set up differently; see Configuration.

Opening and closing

Press B, or type /emotes, or type /e with nothing after it. Escape closes it.

The menu will not open while you are on a horse, and it will not open while you are in adjust mode.

The two layouts

Two versions of the menu, switchable whenever you like.

The Grand / Compact switch sits at the bottom of the left sidebar in Grand, and in the bottom bar in Compact. Your choice is remembered on your own game client from then on, whatever the server default is.

Some tabs may be empty depending on what your server imported — the Walks and Moods tabs in particular only have contents if the owner added them.

Search is the fastest way to find anything. Type part of a name into the box at the top; it matches anywhere in the name and ignores capitals. The box clears and the tab resets to All every time you open the menu.

Big libraries: search, don't scroll

Servers can have thousands of emotes, so the menu only draws the first 400 in a tab. Past that you will see +N more — use search to narrow at the bottom.

Playing and stopping

Click anywhere on a card to play it. To stop, do any of these:

  • Press X
  • Click the red Stop chip
  • Type /e stop or /e c

Stopping also drops any prop you are holding, ends a shared emote for both players, and stands you up from a chair.

Walk styles are the exception

They are not cancelled by stopping. To go back to your normal walk, play Normal Walk in the Walks tab.

The /e command

Every emote has a short name you can type, shown on the card under the emote name like /e wavehello. Typing it plays the emote instantly without opening the menu.

You typeWhat happens
/eThe menu opens
/e wavehelloThat emote plays
/e stop / /e cYour emote stops
/e randomA random emote plays

Type a name that does not exist and nothing happens — no error, no message. Check the spelling on the card.

stop, c and random are reserved, so no emote can use those names.

Favourites and the quick dock

Click the star on a card to save it — you will see "Added to your collection". Click again to remove it.

Saved emotes appear in two places: the Saved tab, and the Quick emotes dock that is always visible at the bottom (Grand) or on the left (Compact). Clicking a slot plays it.

Prop and shared emotes cannot be starred — they have no star on their card.

Your saved emotes are tied to your account, so they follow you across sessions and characters on that server.

Key binds and SHIFT hotkeys

SHIFT + 1 to 5 always play the first five emotes in your quick dock. Nothing to set up — star five emotes and they are ready.

For anything else, give a saved emote its own key:

  1. Open the menu and find the slot in the Quick emotes dock.
  2. Click the key chip on that slot (it says "Unbound", or shows the current key).
  3. It changes to "Press a key...". Press the key you want.

AllowedSingle letters AZ and digits 09 only
BlockedF1F12 and X. You get "That key cannot be bound" and the old bind is kept
Clear a bindPress Escape, Backspace, Alt, Control or Shift while capturing

Bound keys fire only when you are not holding Shift, so they never clash with the SHIFT hotkeys. They are also switched off while the menu is open, while you are typing in chat or any other resource's text box, and during adjust mode — so nothing you type inside chat will trigger a bind. The key that opens chat is still read normally, so do not bind it (by default T).

Recent, Random and Repeat

  • Recent remembers the last 24 emotes you played, newest first, and survives relogging. Prop and shared emotes are listed there too.
  • Random picks from the library. It never picks a walk style, a prop emote or a shared emote.
  • Repeat replays the last emote you played.

Random, Repeat, Adjust, Stop and Preview are the chips along the top (Grand) or in the button row (Compact).

Live preview

When the menu is open, a translucent mannequin appears so you can see an emote before you play it.

  • Hover any card or quick slot and the mannequin performs it after a short delay.
  • Scroll the mouse wheel to turn it around.
  • The Preview chip turns it on or off, and your choice is remembered.

Walk styles are skipped because they only show in motion; shared emotes are skipped because they need a partner.

Seeing "Preview model failed to load — check F8 console"? The preview character could not load on your client. Everything else still works normally.

Walk styles

The Walks tab changes how your character walks. Play one and it stays on until you change it.

  • Not cancelled by X, the Stop chip or /e stop.
  • To go back to normal, play Normal Walk.
  • Your walk style is remembered, and reapplied a few seconds after you rejoin or pick your character — so there is a short delay before it comes back.
  • That re-apply after character selection only runs on VORP and RSG Core. On RedEM:RP and standalone there is just the one re-apply four seconds after the resource starts, so if character selection takes longer than that the style lands on a ped that is then replaced and you have to pick the walk again.
  • You can change your walk style while riding a horse. Every other kind of emote is blocked while mounted.

Moods and emotes you can move during

Emotes the server has set up as upper body — emote_type = face, or the upper_body column switched on — only use the top half of your character. Most of what a server puts in the Moods tab is set up that way, but it is the emote's own setting that decides, not the tab it sits in, so an individual Moods emote can still be full-body. You keep control and can walk and look around while they play — but, like every non-walk emote, they cannot be started while mounted.

Everything else is full-body and holds you in place until you stop it.

Shared emotes

The Shared tab needs a second character. The shipped set is Dance Together, Take Hostage, Pet Dog (Standing) and Pet Dog (Sitting).

  1. Stand within about 3 metres of your partner.
  2. Play the shared emote — the closest person or animal in range is picked automatically.
  3. A player sees floating text above your head: <your name> wants <emote> — [E] accept / [R] decline.
  4. They press E to accept or R to decline. Eight seconds of silence declines it and you see <name> declined your request.
  5. On accept they are moved into position and both animations start together.

If nobody is nearby you get "Nobody in range".

If the closest thing is an animal or an NPC — which is what the Pet Dog emotes are for — there is no prompt. The animal is moved into position and both animations start straight away.

Either player stopping ends it for both. Shared emotes cannot be starred, do not hover-preview, and cannot be used with adjust mode.

Full detail in Props & shared emotes.

Prop emotes

The Props tab gives you an item to hold: Carry Basket, Fan (Right Hand), Fan (Left Hand), Parasol and Dog Bone.

Most leave you free to walk around while holding the item. The prop is removed when you stop, and put back automatically if the game ever drops it. Playing a normal animation while holding a prop ends the prop emote first.
